Killarney Raceway Parade | A Record-Breaking VW Air-Cooled Performance

On the 31st of August, the Wild Buggers took on Killarney International Raceway, and it was a day for the history books! The sun was out, the engines were roaring, and the energy was contagious. We were invited to be part of the largest drive-by parade in Killarney’s 75-year history. This was a massive tribute to Mr. Dennis Joubert, the legend who designed and built this iconic circuit, and we were proud to show off our machines on his track.

Stealing the Show at Killarney International Raceway

The day started early for those of us who couldn’t wait to get our wheels on the tarmac. By 8 AM, the Power Series was already in full swing, but the real highlight was the parade. Thousands of spectators in the stands—and over 11,000 viewers on the live stream—watched as our convoy of VW air-cooled performance cars rolled onto the track.

The buzz was incredible. As we lined up, you could hear the crowd shouting, “Check daai Beach Buggy!” and “Nee man, check daai Baja!” We weren’t just driving laps; we were celebrating the creativity and spirit of the Wild Buggers. The crowd was on its feet, and there was no doubt that our colourful fleet of buggies and Beetles stole the show.

A Tribute to a Legend: Honoring Dennis Joubert

Being part of this monumental tribute was an absolute honour. As we cruised around the track and waved to the fans, it was clear that our vehicles are symbols of passion and motorsport heritage. Paying homage to a man who has given over four decades to the world of South African motorsport was a highlight of the year for the club.

Our VW air-cooled performance might not be breaking track records for top speed, but in terms of style and crowd appeal, we are unbeatable! The roar of the engines echoing off the grandstands reminded us all why we love these unique machines. It was a proud moment for every member behind the wheel.
