Castle and Chappies Cruise: Join Our Next Wild Buggers Run on 11 October

Get ready for an unforgettable day out on the road. On Sunday, 11 October 2026, The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club is hitting the road for the Castle and Chappies Cruise. If you love classic air-cooled VW machines, custom beach buggies, and an epic Cape Town convoy, clear your calendar and lock in this date.

Whether you roll in a classic Beetle, a Baja Bug, or your favorite beach buggy, this is your chance to join fellow enthusiasts for a fantastic day of cruising, history, and stunning coastal views.

The Itinerary

• 09:30 AM – 10:00 AM | The Meetup at Bothasig KFC Kick off the morning with fellow club members in the parking lot. Grab a quick briefing, check your route, and switch on those buggy headlights.
• 10:00 AM | Wheels Up Head out and make our way toward our first major stop.
• 10:20 AM | Castle of Good Hope Arrival Pull into the visitor parking at the back of the castle grounds to keep the beach buggies safely grouped together.
• 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Public Guided Castle Tour Join our 60-minute guided walk exploring the old bastions, the William Fehr Collection, and the historic dungeons.
  • Pricing: Adults R50, Students & Pensioners R25, Children R10. (Note: If this run falls within your birthday month, you enter the Castle for free!)
• 12:00 PM | The Peninsula Cruise Fire up the engines for a scenic drive down the peninsula toward the coast.
• 01:00 PM onwards | Chappies Picnic Take on the iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive. We will pull the convoy into one of the stone ocean-view laybys, unpack our cooler boxes, and enjoy a relaxed lunch on the cliffs. Good news for members: The club will cover your toll gate fee for the day.
• Afternoon Mingle | Mariner’s Wharf & Harbour Wrap up the afternoon by driving directly into the water-facing parking lot at Mariner’s Wharf. Line up the buggies side-by-side, stretch your legs, and watch the Cape Fur Seals down at Hout Bay Harbour.

Get your rides prepped, pack your cooler boxes, and get ready for a brilliant day out with the club.

No tickets. No registrations. No RSVPs. No fees.
If your ride is air-cooled, old school, a beach buggy, or a Baja bug, you’re in. Just rock up to the starting point and join the convoy!

The Golden Rules of the Run

1. Arrive Fuelled Up: Always arrive with a completely full tank of fuel before departure so we don’t have to break the convoy for unexpected petrol stops.
2. “Follow” the Car Behind You: Your main job is to keep the vehicle behind you in sight. If they fall back, you must slow down too. The speed of the lead car is entirely determined by the slowest car at the back of the pack.
3. Never Abandon a Turnoff: If the convoy turns onto a new road and the vehicle behind you hasn’t caught up yet, stop and wait at the turnoff until they see you and make the turn. They will then do the same for the person behind them.
4. No Member Left Behind: If the car behind you disappears or pulls over, stop safely and help us find out why. If they have a breakdown, the whole club is there to back them up.

Next Event: 28 November 2026. Annual Lights For Life Run: The Ultimate Old School VW Night Convoy

Get those air-cooled engines ready because our biggest year-end tradition is locked in for Saturday, 28 November 2026. Whether you roll in a classic Beetle, a vintage Kombi, a cool Beach Buggy, a rare Karmann Ghia, an awesome Trike, a Baja Bug, or any unique, special, out-of-the-box ride, this night run is for you. We are pushing the schedule 30 minutes later this year so it is properly dark when we light up the streets of Cape Town.

The Plan for the Night

• Meetup Time: Gather from 7:30 PM at Food Lovers Market N1 City.
• Rollout Time: Rolling out at 8:00 PM sharp.
• The Route: We cruise through the city down to Camps Bay and Green Point, where we will park off for an hour to check out the rides and catch up.
• The Final Leg: From Green Point, the run continues to Bloubergstrand for those who want to keep the wheels rolling and grab some pizza. (Staying in Green Point for the park-off is also totally fine!)

Get Your Lights Ready

Get your Christmas lights ready, wire them up to your car, polish up that chrome, and tell all your VW family to join us for a glowing convoy spectacle.
