Get ready to rev your engines and buckle up! The Wild Buggers recently held our very own “Amazing Race,” and let me tell you, it was a total doozy. We gathered at the iconic Bloubergstrand, but this wasn’t your average car meet. Our members showed up in the quirkiest costumes imaginable—I was rocking a woman’s swimsuit, Mickey was a bunny, and we even had The Joker and a “Bumbleblingarina” in the mix!
Clues, Goals, and Pacman: The Race is On!
The mission was simple: follow the clues, complete the challenges, and don’t get lost. Our first stop was Eden on the Bay for a quick photo proof, followed by a dash to the Edgemead Soccer Club. We had to face off against a goalie crew, but Michelle proved to be our secret weapon, netting three goals in record time to secure our passage.
Next, we raced to Wonderland at N1 City. Seeing a convoy of VW air-cooled vehicles driven by people in fancy dress walking into an arcade to snap a pic at the Pacman machine was a riot! We definitely drew some stares, but the smiles and laughs from the public were worth it.
Off-Road Shenanigans and the Pit of Doom at Zone 7
The real adrenaline rush came during the mad dash to Zone 7. This is the ultimate playground for any Beach Buggy, and we made the most of it with some off-road shenanigans and impromptu doughnuts. But the real test was the water bucket challenge. Co-pilots had to hold full buckets of water while drivers navigated a bumpy track—let’s just say a few people ended up with unexpected showers!
After the scores were tallied and the winners crowned, we tucked into a delicious spread of boerewors rolls and smoor. It was the perfect way to wind down after a day of high-speed high-jinks. Some of us even took a scenic detour through the farm roads of Durbanville on the way home, stopping for a quick treat at KFC to end the adventure on a high note.
