Hey there, Beach Buggy fanatics and air-cooled enthusiasts! I’m Anton Kleyn, President of The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club, the most active beach buggy club Cape Town has to offer, and I’m still grinning from ear to ear. Wiehann’s Run! If you’re looking for fun, camaraderie, and a whole lot of VW classic cars here in Cape Town, you’ve landed in the right spot.

Our mission was simple: gather our fantastic fleet of beach buggies and VW classics, hit the open road, and make some unforgettable memories. And oh boy, did we!

A Convoy of VW Classic Cars and Unexpected Twists

VW classic cars convoy on Wiehann's Run in Cape Town
You know us Wild Buggers – we love a good chat! Even after getting our beach buggies perfectly parked at Helderberg Farm, we took our sweet time, enjoying some relaxed conversation in the sunshine. Everyone looking sharp in their black attire, showing our respect. Just soaking up the awesome VW family vibes on Wiehann’s Run!

The morning kicked off with our vibrant convoy shining under the Cape Town sun. From classic Bug designs to unique custom builds, every air-cooled VW was a testament to passion. Our first big destination? Helderberg Farm for those legendary strawberry milkshakes.

Now, a little secret for anyone new to the Wild Buggers: sometimes, the best things in life require a very, very long wait. But when you’re surrounded by your VW Family and beautiful scenery, the wait is just part of the fun. We even joked they had to plant extra strawberries just for our massive group of VW classic cars!

Of course, a true adventure isn’t complete without a little roadside excitement. Our yellow Beamish buggy decided it needed a few unscheduled pit stops. Big shout-outs to Tony and Rhoodie for getting their hands dirty! It’s the spirit of the Wild Buggers—we never leave a VW classic behind.

Scenic Routes and VIP Treatment for our VW Classics

After the milkshakes, we hit the road again, cruising past Sir Lowry’s Pass Village. Our final stop was the magnificent Lourensford Estate. Talk about ending the day in style! The car guards were absolute legends, giving our entire fleet of VW classic cars and buggies VIP parking so we could all stay together.

We settled in for pizzas, cocktails, and a proper toast to a fantastic day. But for some of us, the engine didn’t stop there. Mickey, Rhoodie, Yolande, and I followed Anthony and Michelle back for what was supposed to be a “quick coffee.” As any true Wild Bugger knows, when good company and old school VW stories come together, time flies! That coffee turned into a late-night burger run at Spur. That’s the real magic of this club—the adventure continues long after the ignition is turned off.
