The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club just finished another classic jol—Rhoodie & Yolande’s Run—and if you missed it, you missed a masterclass in driving a VW Air cooled vehicle and dealing with eccentric farm animals. This run proved that the VW Family passion for old school VW machines is only matched by our ability to find chaos and lekker gees wherever we go.
The Great Farm Detour: When Beach Buggy Meets the Art World’s Saddest Saga

Our convoy of brightly coloured Beach Buggies and and a VW Beetle was cruising along when we took a detour into the bizarre. We ended up at Farm Sanctuary SA—not for a picnic, but for high culture and a profound mission!
We’re talking about Pigcasso, the legendary painting pig. This amazing creature was rescued from slaughter in 2016 by Joanne Lefson. Joanne noticed Pigcasso had a strange passion: she destroyed everything in sight except a few paint brushes. Realizing this pig had a higher calling than bacon, Joanne nurtured her talent! Pigcasso would sign her masterpieces with her nose-tip, and her works sold for record prices, funding the sanctuary’s crucial mission.
Now, here is where the story gets absolutely wild: Pigcasso has passed on, but she left behind an amazing student! One of the sheep watched Pigcasso paint, picked up the brush, and started producing genuine masterpieces. But earlier this year, some low-life art thief actually stole the painting sheep! We drove our VW Air cooled vehicles kilometers for a good time, and ended up at the center of an international art mystery with a R1.2 MILLION reward out for the furry genius!
Meanwhile, the sanctuary has their next star lined up: they are trying to teach one of the dwarf goats to paint and want to call him Vincent Van Goat! We love the ambition, but that title is a lot of pressure for a dwarf goat.
After paying our respects to the art and the ongoing mystery, and dealing with the usual demanding crowd (like the snack-hungry sheep named Forest Bump), we had to get back to the serious business of the jol. But hey, if you ever spot a sheep holding a paintbrush, or a dwarf goat with an easel, call the club immediately!
Fueling the VW Family: From Dust to Braai Prep
After all the animal encounters and art appreciation, the crew was ready for the road again. A quick but crucial stop in Paarl was necessary to load up on the most important fuel of the day: braai supplies. Our line-up of VW Classics in the parking lot always draws a crowd, even if our drivers were just inside buying wors.
With the supplies secured, we hit the open road again, leaving the paved stuff behind for the real test: the dusty gravel road! This is where our Bug‘s truly shine! Wiehann and Anthony led the charge, kicking up so much dust that the only motivation to keep going was the thought of the fire waiting at the end.
The Lekker Gees Finale at Meulwater
The reward for that dusty drive was Meulwater—pure bliss! Ruan, our selfless hero, went ahead to secure the spot and had the fire crackling perfectly. Baie dankie, Ruan! Every single VW Bug in the convoy handled the dust like a champ!
With the VW Bug convoy safely parked under the trees, the VW Family settled into maximum lekker gees mode. The mission was complete! The VW Air cooled vehicle engines were quiet, the smoke from the braai was rising, and the Wild Buggers crew was officially in maximum chill mode. Everyone just sat back, giggled over the ridiculous art-heist saga of the sheep, and soaked up the lekker gees of a job well done. That, my friends, is true Wild Buggers bliss!
Rhoodie & Yolande’s Run was an outstanding success, reminding everyone that the best adventures are always the ones shared with your VW Family!
