The roar of engines, the cheers of children, and the smell of a proper braai, there’s nothing quite like a day at Killarney! As the most active beach buggy club Cape Town has to offer, The Wild Buggers were out in full force to support a great cause. These are the hallmarks of a successful Wild Buggers charity run! We recently hosted an absolute blast at Killarney International Raceway, sharing the magic of our air-cooled VW classics with some very special kids. This wasn’t just a day at the races; it was a mission to bring hope and horsepower to underprivileged children from across the Cape.

A Legend on the Track: Convoy of Buggy Buddies

Lined up and ready!

From the moment the first beach buggy arrived bright and early, we knew it was going to be a day for the history books. Our members are more than just car owners; they are a group of buggy buddies dedicated to using their unique rides for good. We’d spent weeks planning, securing the perfect braai spot, and reserving grandstand seating to ensure the kids had a front-row seat to the action.

The highlight was undoubtedly the track time. Seeing the kids’ faces light up as they hopped into our air-cooled VW classics for a spin around the raceway was truly priceless. From Lerene Sadie’s beautiful blue Kango to the iconic rumble of our Beetles, every vehicle on the track contributed to a symphony of smiles.

Feeding the Soul: Braais, Slushies, and Community

A Wild Buggers event is never complete without a proper feast. We made sure there were enough boerewors rolls to feed an army, and the kids definitely made the most of it! A huge shout-out to our amazing members who volunteered their time—especially Rhoodie and Rico, who kept everyone cool with slush puppies.

It is this spirit of generosity that defines our club. Whether we are troubleshooting a motor or organizing a massive charity drive, we believe in the power of the VW family. Seeing our air-cooled VW classics parked up alongside the braai fires reminded us all why we do what we do—it’s about the people as much as the petrol.

Spreading Joy from the Raceway to the Community

The success of the Killarney International Raceway Charity Run is a testament to the heart and soul of the Wild Buggers. We even had a visit from a clown on a scooter who joined the fun on the track, adding an extra layer of excitement for the children from House of Love, Mercy Aids, Mamawethu Home of Safety and Huis Andrew Murray Kinderhuis.

Even after the tracks cooled down, the giving continued. Our dedicated team ensured that surplus food was delivered to the Bothasig Old Age Home, proving that a Beach Buggy Club with the right values can make a difference across every generation. We are so proud of our members and can’t wait to hit the track again!
