What’s better than a classic VW, a scenic drive, and good company? Combining all three, of course! I’m Anton Kleyn, and as the President of the most active beach buggy club Cape Town has to offer, I can tell you our Valentine’s Day Run was one for the books! That is exactly what the Wild Buggers did for our unforgettable Valentine’s Day Run. Love was not just in the air; it was cruising alongside us as we explored some of the most beautiful spots in the Cape.

Thoughtful Gifts and a Convoy of Buggy Buddies

Good times, good company, and great views! The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club Cape Town enjoying a chat at our Surfers Corner pit stop, with our classic VWs on one side and the beautiful ocean on the other.

From the moment we gathered, the energy was electric. A huge shoutout to Brent and Sam for the handcrafted gift boxes! They were overflowing with goodies, including custom-wrapped nougat made by Sam herself. These little touches are what make the Wild Buggers such a special VW family.

Our convoy of classic VWs and beach buggies turned heads wherever we went. It was great to see all our buggy buddies lined up and ready for the road. We followed the lead through Kalk Bay, where the ocean views were simply breathtaking, before making a pit stop at the shark watcher’s lookout for some epic photo opportunities.

Storming Simonstown: History and Miniature Beetles

Next, the Wild Buggers stormed Simonstown! Our destination was the historic cannon, where we explored the area and took in the harbor views. Michelle Jenkins even contemplated the acoustics inside the cannon barrel—a hilarious moment that had the whole crew laughing.

We also paid a visit to the legendary Just Nuisance, the only dog officially listed in the British Royal Navy. Picturesque does not even begin to describe the vibe! Some of the crew even found miniature Beetles at the nearby stalls—the perfect souvenirs to remember a day out with the best air-cooled club in the Cape.

Dixie’s Lunch and a Sweet Mountain Finish

Lunchtime found us at Dixie’s Restaurant for some delicious food and even better conversation. It was a chance to relax and share stories with fellow enthusiasts before hitting the road again. We climbed the mountain for even more incredible vistas—the scenery was out of this world.

Our final stop was a sweet one. We pulled over for ice cream to cool down after a day of cruising. Shrek, Bumblebee, Emoji, Mango, and even the Jeep all lined up looking picture-perfect. The Valentine’s Day Run was more than just a drive; it was a reminder of why the Wild Buggers community is so unique.
