Our day kicked off bright and early at Bothasig, where the fleet gathered at 9 AM. The energy was high, and it was great to see a mix of new and old faces ready for a mystery adventure. I was so busy admiring the newest member of our family—the Gecko Baja Bug—that I completely forgot to snap photos at the start. My bad, ouens! After a quick briefing on the route and a reminder to keep an eye on the driver behind you, we revved up and headed out at 9:30 AM sharp.

The first leg of our journey took us to the Purple Windmill. The weather was perfect for a cruise, and the sight of a long convoy is the ultimate advertisement for the VW air-cooled lifestyle. We took a quick breather for coffee and a toilet break, soaking in the atmosphere before hitting the road again.

Next up was the Route 44 Market, a place buzzing with charm and tasty treats. We had a bit of a laugh when Oom Pierre got a little too curious about some “edible samples,” but thankfully Merinda stepped in to save him from a very long afternoon! It’s these small, hilarious moments that make our club runs so much more than just a drive.

Motorcycles and Missing Phones: The Helderberg Stop

Our final destination was the Helderberg Motorcycle Museum. We were treated to a guided tour through the history of two-wheeled machines, including a mind-blowing bike from 1912 with an engine mounted on the back wheel! It was a masterclass in vintage engineering, which every fan of the VW air-cooled lifestyle can appreciate.

We did have a moment of panic when Jade realized her phone had gone missing at a previous stop. Luckily, the team at the Purple Windmill found it and contacted Nathan. Tony proved once again that he’s a legend by driving all the way back to retrieve it. We wrapped up the day with a fantastic lunch at the Gourmet Mechanics Restaurant, celebrating another successful run.

Congratulations to Our Newest Full Member

A huge welcome to Wiehann Geldenhuis, who completed his second club event and is now officially a full member of the Wild Buggers! We love seeing the family grow. As the sun set, we headed home, though Mickey did get a hilarious late-night call from Landria with a classic warning: “Don’t take more than half an edible… ek is gerook!”
