Gear up, Wild Buggers! This is a story about sunshine, good deeds, and enough laughs to fill a Beach Buggy. Our charity run to Huis Uitsig was a legendary day, filled with heartwarming moments and the kind of community spirit that defines our club.

Thinking on Our Wheels: The Great Water Crisis

The adventure began at the Durbanville Engen with 25 Beach Buggies rolling in, most overflowing with donations. But just as we were ready to hit the gas, we got a panic call from Huis Uitsig—a water pipe had burst, leaving the residents high and dry!

In true VW air-cooled fashion, we adapted on the fly. Michelle and Tony zipped off to a water shop and returned with 25 big bottles to quench the thirst. After a quick pitstop on Lover’s Lane to soak up the view and admire the gleaming chrome, we cruised into Huis Uitsig to a hero’s welcome.

A Day of Rides and Rock ‘n Roll Legends

Pulling into the home, we caused a traffic jam of the best kind! Inside, the braai was sizzling and Jou Stasie was pumping out the tunes. The highlight of the day was definitely giving Beach Buggy rides to the 220 residents. Helping everyone climb into the seats was a full-body workout for us, but seeing the pure joy on their faces as we shared stories and memories made every bit of effort worth it.

The party really kicked into gear with a surprise performance by the legendary Tommy Dell and Vos Reyneke. Can you believe Tommy is 82 and still belts out tunes like a pro? The dance floor erupted with folks in wheelchairs and Zimmer frames joining the fun. It was a heartwarming sight that perfectly captured the spirit of the day—proving that you’re never too old for some VW air-cooled magic.

Community, Fun, and Giving Back

By the time the boerewors rolls were finished, hearts were full and bellies were even fuller. We left Huis Uitsig with the satisfaction of knowing we’d made a real difference. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who organized the logistics, the music, and the massive amount of donations.

Whether it’s donating games or providing a few minutes of thrill in a classic Beach Buggy, the Wild Buggers are all about giving back. If you want to be part of a club that does more than just drive, make sure you join us for our next monthly adventure!
