Hey Buggy Buddies and VW air-cooled fanatics! Mark March 30th in the history books, because the Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club pulled off an absolute stunner of a Reach for a Dream charity run! As a beach buggy club Cape Town can be proud of, we’re still grinning from ear to ear, reminiscing about the day our passion for all things VW collided with the heartwarming mission of Reach for a Dream. It was a day of roaring engines, track-side smiles, and proving that our club has the biggest heart in Cape Town.

Dreams on Wheels: A Beach Buggy Club Mission

The day kicked off with an amazing display of classic VW camaraderie at our meeting point, Spar Plattekloof. The parking area was a riot of color and fiberglass brilliance as our vibrant convoy, nearly 30 buggies strong, set off towards Killarney International Raceway.

The air crackled with anticipation as the children and their families arrived. After a brief welcome, it was time for the main event: Buggy Rides! The kids had the freedom to choose their dream ride, whether it was a classic beach buggy or a modified Beetle, and with Anthony Jenkins’ “Bumble Bee” leading the charge, a colorful train of buggies took to the track. Seeing the kids’ faces light up as they felt the wind in their hair is exactly why we love being part of a Beach Buggy Club.

Heroes of the Track and the Legendary Braai

A massive thank you goes to the team at Killarney International Raceway for letting us use their top-notch facilities. While the kids were enjoying their laps, our heroes behind the flames were busy braai-ing up a feast of sosaties and boerewors.

From Johan’s rotary-powered buggy bringing the “brap-brap” sound to the track, to pristine VW Beetles and Porsche replicas, every vehicle added to the magic. We even had a raffle with fantastic prizes, including a special track experience donated by Race Web. The financial donations we received allowed us to gift each child a cuddly teddy bear and cover the costs of a proper Beach Buggy Club feast!

Spreading Joy Beyond the Raceway

The fun did not stop when the track cooled down. As the event concluded, our dedicated helpers jumped into action for the big cleanup. But in true Wild Buggers fashion, we had extra rolls and eats left over. Two of our members took the surplus down to the Bothasig Old Age Home, where they were welcomed with open arms.

It was a perfect end to a perfect day. Whether it was the candy floss magic from Justin Du Plessis or the personalized gifts from Saint and Bloom, every detail made these “Dreams on Wheels” a reality. This is what being the most active Beach Buggy Club in South Africa is all about!
