If you weren’t there, you seriously missed out—because the Cape Buggy Tour 2025 was an epic day! I’m Anton Kleyn, President of The Wild Buggers, the most active beach buggy club Cape Town has to offer, and seeing that convoy was a dream come true. The Cape Buggy Tour 2025 was an epic day of cruising, classic cars, and pure magic! From the moment the first engines rumbled to life at the Bothasig meeting point, you could feel it in the air: this wasn’t just a drive, it was a full-blown celebration of everything we love about our Beach Buggy Club. We had an impressive lineup of home-built cars, fiberglass beasts, and air-cooled legends polished up and ready to roll. Whether it was a meticulously restored beach buggy or a rough-and-ready project, the variety on the road was incredible.
A Convoy Like No Other: Buggy Buddies on the Open Road

Our Beach Buggy Club convoy turned heads and stopped traffic all the way from the suburbs to the sea. From Misty Cliffs to mountain passes and coastal corners, every curve of the road echoed with the roar of Volkswagen air-cooled engines. It was a sight to behold: a sea of colourful buggies snaking through the Cape, with plenty of buggy buddies sharing the road and sunshine on every bonnet.
We had Beamish Beach Buggies, Kango Beach Buggy classics, and some creative custom builds that pushed the envelope. From Wiehann’s iconic “Bug” to Anthony’s buzzing yellow “Bumble Bee,” every ride had its own flair. Even with spare wheels mounted in the most unexpected places, the spirit of the air-cooled community was unbeatable.
Making Headlines: The Beach Buggy Club in Netwerk24 and Die Burger
Our buggies didn’t just own the road—they owned the news! We are incredibly proud to have been featured on the front page of Die Burger and in Netwerk24 with the headline “Buggy-toer in die Kaap.” Seeing our club recognized in the national media proves that the Wild Buggers are the heart of the VW community in South Africa.
We took breaks, stretched legs, and shared stories at every stop. From the chilled vibes at Cabana to the legendary pit stop at Bardelli’s, it was about more than just the road—it was about the people behind the wheel. Laughter, petrol talk, and good food made each stop a highlight, especially knowing we were making history with such a massive turnout.
Medals, Memories, and a Massive Shoutout
Every driver and co-pilot who completed the tour earned themselves a shiny Cape Buggy Tour 2025 finisher’s medal—and they wore them with pride! From seasoned veterans like James Taylor to first-timers like Mickey, who rocked her Baja Bug from start to finish, you all made the day legendary.
A huge thank you to Ralph for the expert planning that made this tour smoother than a freshly polished Beetle bonnet. Whether you were rolling in a Baja Bug, a kit car, or a classic air-cooled wonder, you helped make this the biggest Beach Buggy Club event of the year.
