Hey there, Wild Buggers! If you missed out on our latest Mystery Run, boy, do we have a tale for you! And if you were there, well, here’s a little reminder of the fantastic time we had—and a nudge to get you geared up for our next event on the 14th of July!
The Starting Line: Bothasig KFC at 9 AM
Our day kicked off bright and early at the Bothasig KFC, where we gathered at 9 AM. It was great to see everyone again, with new and old faces alike. I got so caught up with admiring the newest addition to our buggy family, the Gecko Baja Bug, that I completely forgot to snap some photos at our meeting spot. My bad, ouens!
Andre gave a quick briefing on what to expect for the day. I followed with my usual spiel about keeping an eye on the person behind you and mentioned that we had Wild Buggers caps and buffs for sale. With engines revved and spirits high, we set off at 9:30 AM sharp.
First Stop: The Purple Windmill
Our first leg of the journey took us to the Purple Windmill. The drive was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and we all enjoyed the scenic route. Upon arrival, we took a much-needed toilet break and refueled with some coffee. We spent about 30 minutes here, catching up and soaking in the lovely atmosphere.
Second Stop: Route 44 Mall
Next up was the Route 44 Mall—a place buzzing with activity and charm. There’s so much to see and do here that you could easily spend an entire day exploring. Some of us indulged in tasty treats, and Oom Pierre got a little too curious about the edible samples. Thankfully, Merinda was quick to intervene and save him from any unintended adventures.
We dispersed to enjoy the mall, knowing we had to regroup at our buggy’s by noon. Unfortunately, Nick and Ellie had a bit of a timing hiccup, and Jaco had to leave for work. Thanks for joining us for the first part of the run, Jaco!
Final Stop: Helderberg Motorcycle Museum
Our last destination was the Helderberg Motorcycle Museum, where we also planned to have lunch at the Gourmet Mechanics Restaurant. Andre had arranged for a tour guide to walk us through the fascinating history of the motorcycles on display. Talk about cool! The standout for me was a motorcycle with two back wheels and an engine mounted on one of them, built back in 1912. Each bike was restored to its original state, down to the colors they originally rolled out in.
In a bit of excitement, Jade’s phone fell out of her bag at our previous stop. The kind folks at the Purple Windmill found it and contacted Nathan, the last number dialed, to let us know it was safe. Tony heroically went back to retrieve it.
The Grand Finale
The food at the Gourmet Mechanics Restaurant was excellent, the run itself was fantastic, and the company, as always, was top-notch. A huge shoutout to everyone who made the day so memorable. We hope to see you all at our next Wild Buggers event on the 14th of July!
Oh, and before I forget—later that evening, Mickey got a hilarious phone call from Landria with a cautionary tale: “Pasop… Don’t take more than half an edible… Ek is gerook!!!” Classic!
