This December, the Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club once again showed that our love for VW air-cooled machines is matched only by our care for the community. On a special mission to Kraaifontein, we set out to bring holiday cheer to a small children’s home. It was a day of surprises, heartfelt moments, and the unmistakable hum of a VW air-cooled engine bringing smiles to kids who have faced unimaginable hardships.

A Festive Parade of Buggy Buddies

The initiative was inspired by Lerene Sadie, who told us about the incredible work being done at this foster home. We decided to rally our community of buggy buddies to make this holiday season one to remember. We arrived with a vibrant parade: Each beach buggy was packed with gifts, goodies, and a spirit of celebration. Father Christmas (played brilliantly by Harry), a dedicated elf, and two trusty sidekicks.

The highlight of the day was the joyrides around the block! For most of the kids, it was a total thrill to feel the power of a VW air-cooled engine firsthand. We even had a touching moment with little Damian; he was nervous at first, but after a reassuring ride with his caregiver, he was all smiles. It’s those small wins that make these runs so important to our club.

Father Christmas and the Power of Giving

After the rides, it was time for the main event: the presents! Each child received a gift carefully chosen just for them. From new clothes and books to toys and even a bicycle, the generosity of our members was overwhelming. Seeing the kids unwrap their gifts with Father Christmas himself was a priceless experience. This wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our members. As a beach buggy club Cape Town can count on for more than just car shows, we were proud to see everyone pitch in.

This run wouldn’t have been possible without the legendary support of our members like Marius, Michelle, Lerene, and Harry. Whether it was Lerene’s blue Kango packed with donations or Shrek leading the way, every VW air-cooled engine in that convoy was running on pure kindness. We left Kraaifontein with full hearts, knowing we’d made a real difference.

Join the Wild Buggers for the Next Mission

The Foster Care Run isn’t just a one-off; it is a core part of what makes the Wild Buggers so special. We are a family that loves to give back as much as we love to drive. If you want to experience the camaraderie and the “lekker gees” of a true air-cooled community, you need to be at our next event.
