As the sun rose over Plattekloof on December 8th, the Wild Buggers gathered for our final official run of 2024, buzzing with excitement for a day of scenic drives, good food, and great company. Starting at the picturesque Lovers Lane, the morning had a sobering start as we learned about a frightening ordeal Ayesha had faced. Four armed men hijacked her car, taking her phone and other belongings. Thankfully, she emerged unscathed, and with her car later recovered, albeit needing repairs, Faizal now has his hands full fixing the damage.
Despite the rocky beginning, Gary arrived just in time to rally the group with a quick briefing. Fueled by his enthusiasm (and soon, bacon and egg brekkie rolls!), we set off for the first leg of our journey.
The Scenic Route to Kleinmond
Our convoy hit the road, first stopping at a garage outside Stellenbosch for a much-needed refreshment break. It was here that Gary surprised us with a big box of freshly made breakfast rolls—an absolute hit that set the tone for the day.
With bellies satisfied, we cruised through the scenic roads of Stellenbosch, soaking up the natural beauty. As we approached Somerset West, the climb up the mountain treated us to breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. At the Orchard near Grabouw, we stretched our legs and indulged in some retail therapy at the charming local stalls.
The journey continued through the countryside, winding along the R43 and eventually branching off towards the sea along the R44. Our luncheon destination, C Shack in Kleinmond, welcomed us with its sea-view charm and a delicious, budget-friendly menu. Laughter and chatter filled the air as we enjoyed our meal, topped off with a group photo to capture the moment.
A Phone Chase and Coastal Splendor
As we prepared to leave, Mickey discovered her phone was missing. Using a live location feature, we embarked on an unexpected detour to track it down. What began as hopeful optimism quickly turned into a tense adventure through unfamiliar terrain, eventually ending at a police station for assistance. Although the phone chase didn’t end as we hoped, Mickey later pinpointed its location from home, and thanks to our incredible club network, her phone was retrieved the following day.
Back on track, the group continued along the spectacular Clarence Drive. This coastal route never fails to impress, with its dramatic views of the ocean and winding roads perfect for a Beach Buggy convoy. In Strand, we regrouped (some for ice cream, others for coffee) and wrapped up the day with a strong sense of camaraderie and gratitude for the friendships that make the Wild Buggers so special.
