Hello Wild Buggers and fallow VW enthusiasts!

Welcome to the recap of our thrilling Country Run, organized by the Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club. On May 19th, our convoy of vibrant Beach Buggy’s, Baja Bug’s, Convertible Beetles, and more gathered for an unforgettable adventure through scenic backroads. If you missed out, don’t worry—this detailed recap will make you feel like you were right there with us. Plus, mark your calendars for our next exciting event on June 9th!

The Excitement Begins: Meeting at The Wild Bean Café

Our day kicked off bright and early at The Wild Bean Café in Pinehurst. The parking lot was buzzing with energy as members arrived, showcasing their beautifully maintained and customized buggy’s. From the roar of the engines to the friendly banter and laughter, it was clear that this was going to be a day to remember.

Highlights from the Meeting Point:

  • Stunning Buggy Lineup: The array of colors and unique designs turned heads and drew admiration from onlookers.
  • New Faces: We were thrilled to see new members joining us for their first run. Welcome to the Wild Buggers family!
  • Quick Briefing: After some mingling and coffee, we had a quick meeting to outline the day’s route and activities.

Hitting the Road: The Scenic Drive Begins

With engines revving and spirits high, we hit the road for our scenic drive. The convoy, consisting of 22 buggies, wound its way through picturesque landscapes, turning heads and sparking smiles wherever we went.

Memorable Moments on the Road:

  • Isabel’s Flying Cellphone: Just a short while into the drive, we had a minor hiccup when Isabel’s cellphone decided to take a dive out of her buggy. Thankfully, no major harm was done, and we quickly regrouped and continued our journey.
  • Hannes’ Buggy Troubles: Unfortunately, Hannes had to head home early due to some persistent buggy problems. We hope to see you back on the road soon, Hannes!

First Pitstop: The Old Tannery

Our first official stop was at The Old Tannery in Wellington. This historic site provided the perfect backdrop for a mid-morning coffee break and a chance to stretch our legs.

What Made This Stop Special:

  • Surprise Museum Visit: While exploring the area, we stumbled upon a hidden gem—a Ford Model T museum. The owner graciously opened it up just for us, giving us an exclusive tour. The vintage cars were a hit among our members!
  • Historic Wooden Bridge: We also took a moment to drive over the historic wooden bridge nearby, adding a touch of nostalgia to our run.

Heartwarming Moment: Birthday Surprise for Delanaux

One of the most touching parts of our day was the surprise birthday celebration for Delanaux, a young Beach Buggy enthusiast. We pulled over on the side of the road in Hermon to prepare for the big moment.

Highlights of the Birthday Surprise:

  • Club Generosity: Each member contributed to a birthday fund, which was presented to Delanaux along with some wrapped gifts. The joy on his face was priceless.
  • Community Spirit: This moment truly encapsulated the spirit of the Wild Buggers—supportive, generous, and community-focused.

Lunchtime: Du Vlei Farm Stall

Our next stop was Du Vlei Farm Stall for lunch. While the food was delicious, the service was a bit slow, which led to some members heading home early. Despite the wait, those who stayed enjoyed hearty portions and great company.

Lunchtime Fun:

  • Pre-Ordered Meals: We had pre-ordered our meals to streamline the process, but the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed by our large group.
  • Socializing: The wait time gave us more opportunity to socialize and share stories from the morning’s adventures.

Final Stop: De Werf Farmstall

Our last official stop was at De Werf Farmstall, a charming location with a weekend market and live music.

Why We Loved De Werf:

  • Live Music: We enjoyed live music from a talented guitarist, adding a festive vibe to the afternoon.
  • Market Stalls: From food stalls to leather works and jewelry, there was plenty to see and sample.
  • Safe Parking: Thanks to Tony’s organization, we had safe and secure parking for our buggy’s.

Wrapping Up: Heading Home

As the day drew to a close, members started heading home, with some following scenic coastal routes. The day was filled with laughter, adventure, and unforgettable memories.

Farewell Highlights:

  • Jessie Huggett’s Journey: Watch Jessie Huggett drive his iconic Hugg Bugg home, showcasing the camaraderie and fun of our convoy.
  • Reflections: As we parted ways, everyone reflected on the wonderful day and looked forward to the next adventure.
