On the 31st of August, the Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club took on Killarney International Raceway, and let me tell you, it was a day for the history books! The sun was shining, the engines were roaring, and the excitement was absolutely contagious. We were invited to be a part of something truly special: the largest drive-by parade in Killarney’s 75-year history. The event was a tribute to the legendary Mr. Dennis Joubert, the man who’s been at the heart of Killarney for over four decades, designing and building the complex into the iconic racetrack we all adore today.

The Big Day at Killarney

The day started early for some of our Wild Buggers who couldn’t wait to get their wheels at the track. By 8 AM, the first races of Killarney’s Power Series, presented by Lime Property Management and Smile 90.4 FM, were already underway. But the real highlight for us was the parade – a moment where we could show off our beloved beach buggy’s, Baja Bugs, and all our VW air-cooled beauties in front of thousands of spectators and a live stream audience of over 11,000 viewers!

As we lined up, you could feel the buzz of anticipation in the air. The parade was more than just a lap around the track; it was a celebration of everything we love about our vehicles and the community we’ve built around them. The crowd was on their feet, cheering us on, pointing excitedly at the buggies, and shouting in delight. “CHECK DAAI BEACH BUGGY!” and “NEEEE MAN! CHECK DAAI BAJA BUGG!” were the phrases of the day. The energy was electric, and there was no doubt that we had stolen the show!!!!!

A Moment of Pride

Being part of this monumental tribute was an absolute honour for the Wild Buggers. It wasn’t just about the parade; it was about paying homage to a man who’s given so much to the world of motorsport and has created a legacy that will be remembered for generations. As we cruised around the track, waving to the fans, it was clear that our buggy’s weren’t just vehicles; they were a symbol of passion, creativity, and the unique spirit of our club.

What’s Next for the Wild Buggers?

As if the Killarney Run wasn’t enough excitement, we’re already gearing up for our next adventure! On the 8th of September, we’re hitting the road again, and this time we’re headed to Paarl, Pollie ons gaan Paarl toe. Whether you’re a long-time member or a newcomer curious about what we do, this is the perfect opportunity to join in on the fun. We’ll be meeting up at McDonald’s N1 City at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM departure, and from there, we’ll cruise in convoy to Paarl. Expect a day full of laughs, great company, and of course, the unmistakable roar of our beloved buggy’s.
