Love Was in the Air (and the Tyres!) at the Wild Buggers Valentine’s Day Run!

What’s better than a classic VW, a scenic drive, and good company? Combining all three, of course! That’s exactly what the Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club did for our unforgettable Valentine’s Day Run. Love wasn’t just in the air; it was cruising alongside us as we explored some of the most beautiful spots in the Cape.

From the moment we gathered, the energy was electric. A huge thank you to Brent & Sam Van Der Weijde for the absolutely awesome gift boxes they handcrafted for everyone! Wow, wow, wow! They were overflowing with thoughtful goodies, including custom-wrapped nougat bars made by the talented Sam herself – a truly lekker surprise! These little touches are what make the Wild Buggers such a special VW family.

Our convoy of classic VWs, beach buggies and even a Jeep! turned heads wherever we went. We followed Brent, Anthony, Gary, and Wiehann as they led the way, our little parade of colourful classics winding its way through stunning landscapes. We cruised along the ocean in Kalk Bay, the views simply breathtaking, before making a pit stop at the shark watcher’s lookout for even more photo opportunities.

Next, we stormed Simonstown! The historic Cannon was our next destination. We explored the area, inspected the cannon barrel (Michelle Jenkins even contemplated the acoustics inside – a hilarious thought!), and took in the harbour views. Picturesque doesn’t even begin to describe it! We even paid a visit to the legendary Just Nuisance, the only dog ever officially listed in the British Royal Navy – a true hero! And who could resist the charming stalls nearby, where we found miniature Beetles – the perfect souvenirs!

Lunchtime found us at Dixie’s Restaurant, where we enjoyed delicious food and even better company. It was a chance to relax, chat, and share stories with fellow VW enthusiasts. Refreshed and ready for more, we hit the road again, climbing up the mountain for even more incredible vistas. Another pit stop, another “wow” moment! The scenery was simply out of this world.

Our final stop was a sweet one – literally! We pulled over for ice cream, the perfect way to cool down after a day of cruising. Shrek, Bumblebee, Emoji, Mango, and the Jeep all lined up, looking picture-perfect. Honeycomb sugar cones were the treat of choice – so very lekker!

The Valentine’s Day Run was more than just a drive; it was an experience. It was a celebration of friendship, a love for classic VWs, and an appreciation for the beautiful scenery that surrounds us. It was a reminder of what makes the Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club so special.
