The Kirstenbosch Run was an unforgettable experience for the Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club! Our convoy of classic VWs, a vibrant mix of colours and styles, embarked on a scenic journey that culminated in a breathtaking day at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.

Gathering at Bothasig: The Excitement Builds

The morning began with a flurry of activity as members gathered at our meeting spot in Bothasig. There was a palpable buzz of excitement in the air as we checked over our beloved machines – from gleaming to rugged beach buggies like Rhoodie & Yolandie’s blue Kango with its Datsun 1400 water-cooled motor, and of course, the iconic orange Salamander beach buggy with a 1600 Beetle air-cooled motor belonging to Brent & Sam Van Der Weijde. We couldn’t resist admiring Jessie Huggett’s stunning blue Kestrel KartKraft beach buggy with its 1600 VW air-cooled Beetle motor, a true testament to classic car craftsmanship.

Even before we hit the road, the camaraderie was strong. Members were chatting, sharing stories, and admiring each other’s rides. We even spotted Rhoodie Ackerman looking at the beach buggy he built up for his son – a heartwarming reminder of the passion that unites us all.

The Convoy Rolls Out: A Scenic Drive

With engines revving and spirits high, the convoy rolled out of Bothasig. We enjoyed a scenic drive, with some members, like Brent & Sam, leading the way in their vibrant orange Salamander beach buggy with its 1600 Beetle air-cooled motor. It was exhilarating to be part of the procession, driving behind the 2 Salamanders, their yellow hues a beacon in the sunlight.

Reaching New Heights: Table Mountain Awaits

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly our ascent of Table Mountain. As we navigated the winding roads, we couldn’t help but marvel at the scenery. Finally, we reached the summit! The views were simply breathtaking. We parked some of our Beach buggies, including Jessie Huggett’s Kestrel KartKraft with its 1600 VW air-cooled Beetle motor and Ruan Ackerman’s striking black Beamish beach buggy with a 1600 air-cooled VW Beetle motor, and took in the panoramic vistas.

A Day of Discovery: Exploring Kirstenbosch

After enjoying the summit, we continued our journey to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. As we approached the entrance, we could feel the excitement building. We presented our tickets to enter Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and soon found ourselves immersed in a world of vibrant flora.

The gardens were a feast for the senses. We wandered through lush pathways, admiring the diverse plant life. We even stumbled upon some very interesting statues, adding a touch of artistic intrigue to our exploration.

Picnic Perfection: A Moment of Relaxation

After our botanical exploration, we found a perfect spot under a huge tree and settled in for a lazy picnic. The Zara family had made sure they bring enough picnic food, ensuring a feast. We spent a delightful afternoon relaxing, chatting, and simply enjoying the moment.

Memories Made: A Day to Remember

The Kirstenbosch Run was more than just a drive; it was a celebration of our shared passion for classic cars and a chance to connect with fellow enthusiasts. From the initial gathering at Bothasig to the final moments enjoying a lazy picnic on the lawn under a huge tree at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, it was a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.
